How are GS1 DataBar and EPC the same and how are they different?

Modified on Fri, 30 Aug at 6:24 PM

GS1 DataBar symbols and EPC RFID tags can both encode extra information about an item such as its serial number as well as its GTIN. GS1 DataBar symbols cost less to produce than RFID tags, can be read by most scanners in use today, and are increasingly used with fresh produce items.

The use of the EPC in RFID tags does not require an operator to scan a barcode, many tags can be read at the same time, and some tags can be rewritten. The choice between the two technologies will be based on what is best for that particular application.
