While there are several different versions of Data Matrix that may be used by companies, GS1 has decided to use a version called Data Matrix ECC 200 together with the use of the Function 1 character to denote that these symbols encode GS1-compliant data structures.
The name of the only version that the GS1 System uses is GS1 DataMatrix.
