Why are there narrow bar size restrictions in GS1 barcodes standards?

Modified on Fri, 30 Aug at 2:38 PM

These bar size restrictions exist so that:
  • All retailers can purchase scanning systems that interoperate across manufacturer product packaging from all around the world
  • All manufacturers can mark products the same way for all their customers.
  • People can scan products quickly and accurately. This is especially important in high-speed applications like Retail Point-of-Sale ’slot’ scanners.
