What security measures are in place to ensure that the information stored in QR codes is protected from potential misuse or fraud?

In the QR code itself is a URL.

Every user accessing online information, via a QR Code or any another way, needs to make sure that they are security aware.

That is not unique to scanning a QR Code.

  • All the rules that apply to online safety apply just as much to QR Codes. There is no such thing as a secure or insecure QR Code.
  • One would never click on a link in an untrusted email. Similarly, one would not scan a QR Code that one wasn’t sure of.
  • There are thousands of QR Codes on products in supermarkets now.
  • All that we have learned about being careful when clicking links and installing unexpected software applies whether you got the URL from an email, a text message or by scanning a QR Code.
