What 2D barcodes can be read at Point-of-Sale scanners today?

Modified on Mon, 9 Dec at 9:59 AM

It's impossible to give a single answer to this question as it depends on the retailer's choices of scanning equipment and host system. What we can say is that all camera-based scanners have functionality to scan and read 2D barcodes. It is the retailer's choice to enable or disable that functionality.

It is highly likely that any camera-based scanner can read GS1 DataMatrix. However, only the latest models of camera-based scanners, or ones that have been recently upgraded, will be able to read QR Codes or Data Matrix barcodes with GS1 Digital Link URI.

Most major scanner manufacturers now have models that can read all GS1 compliant retail POS 2D barcodes. For more information, see the 2D Barcodes at Retail Point-of-Sale Implementation Guide.
