Do barcodes have to be printed at the nominal size?

Modified on Fri, 30 Aug at 12:58 PM

No.
Barcode symbol sizes are specified in an acceptable range for the particular application. These are defined in the Symbol Specification Tables in section 5 of the GS1 General Specifications.

The printing process and the material used will determine the size of the barcode that is appropriate for the given packaging.

Lower printing quality requires bigger symbols. The larger the symbol size, the larger the tolerance for deviations, that is, a smaller probability of problems related to the conventional printing processes (off-set, flexography, digital, typography, etc.)
