Will RAIN RFID replace barcode technology?

Modified on Fri, 30 Aug at 2:43 PM

No! RAIN RFID is just an alternative to optical data carriers.

It is important to note that while RAIN RFID offers several advantages over traditional barcodes, it may not be the right solution for your particular application. Always consider your use case prior to diving into an implementation.

The answers to some basic questions can help you in considering if RAIN RFID is worth it or not.
• Do you need non line of sight reading?
• How many items do you want to inventory at once?
• Do you need to be able to change/add some data within the data carrier?
• Do you need to make use of sensors?

All of that being said, barcodes can also be used as a back-up system, be printed directly on the product’s package and will always be cheaper than implementing a RAIN RFID system.
