How can I measure the quality of my printed barcodes?

Modified on Fri, 30 Aug at 1:44 PM

You or your printer can measure the quality of printed barcodes by using a barcode verifier that is compliant with the ISO/IEC standard, ISO/IEC 15426-1 Information technology - Automatic identification and data capture techniques - Barcode verifier conformance specification - Part 1: Linear symbols and ISO/IEC 15426-2:2005 Information technology – Automatic identification and data capture techniques -- Barcode verifier conformance specification --

Part 2: Two-dimensional symbols. A compliant verifier will measure different parameters of the symbol and then provide an overall grade.

Different applications require symbols with different minimum quality standards, and these are all defined in the Symbol Specification Tables which can be found in section 5 of the GS1 General Specifications. You can download a free copy of the GS1 General Specifications.
If you need a copy in your own language, please contact your local GS1 Member Organisation

The GS1 General Specifications provide further details about verification, and templates that are recommended for use to report the results.
