What is GS1 DotCode?

A DotCode is a two-dimensional symbol originally designed for creating two-dimensional symbols with high-speed inkjet or laser dot print techniques. The symbology specification is detailed in the AIM international symbology specification. 


DotCode symbols are rectangular in shape and made up of a grid of typically black dots. The number of rows and columns can be specified in the creation of the symbol.


The version used by the GS1 System is called GS1 DotCode and DotCode that starts with two digits encodes GS1-formatted data. default Function 1 (FNC1) mode available in this symbology. 


GS1 DotCode is only used to meet the requirements of the EU tobacco traceability regulation EU 2018/574. (see GS1 General Specifications for details)
